It gives us great pleasure to announce that Holger Mai is appointed as Director Germany of DNW as per 01 June 2025. The current Director Andreas Bergmann retired on 31 May 2025. For a good transition, Holger already joined DNW on 1 April 2025.
The Management of DNW consists of two Directors of equal standing, nominated by each one of the parent companies German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR).
Holger Mai started his career in wind tunnel testing in 1994 with tests on helicopter aeroacoustics in the DNW-LLF. He re-joined DLR in 1998 and has since then worked as a research scientist at the Institute of Aeroelasticity with main personal interest in nonlinear aerodynamic flow phenomena, transonic flutter, adaptive wing concepts, flow control and helicopter aerodynamics. He is an experienced wind tunnel experimentalist. In 2012, Holger Mai became Head of Department “Aeroelastic Experiments” at the DLR - Institute of Aeroelasticity. He was also actively involved in expanding the capabilities of European wind tunnels (also DNW) by developing new test setups, including DLR large investments.
DNW will benefit from his ample experience in experimental aerodynamics, in business activities as well as from long-term activities in international collaborations. Together with his DNW Co-Director, Joost Hakkaart, he will further develop DNW and its services into a good future.
