Gender Equality Plan

Letter of Intent

The Foundation German-Dutch Wind Tunnels DNW underlines the importance the European Union gives to gender equality. DNW was founded by Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. (DLR) and Koninklijk Nederlands Lucht- en Ruimtevaartcentrum (NLR) and DNW staff is seconded by these two institutes to DNW. Although DNW does not have its own staff, it is fully committed to enhance gender equality in the organization.

DNW relies on the Diversity-Equality-Inclusion officers and specialists of its parent institutes for recruitment, training and career progression. Furthermore, DNW appoints gender equality coordinators at its facilities to locally define and monitor gender equality measures and activities.

The current gender balance at DNW is not representative for the Dutch and German population and is even less favorable than the gender balance at its parent institutes. Currently only about 10% of the staff is female. DNW aims to reach a similar balance as its parent institutes, which would result in twice as many female staff throughout the organization, including on leadership and decision making level by 2030.

Like its parent institutes, DNW will yearly monitor the progress and include the figures in its dashboard. Besides aiming for an appropriate gender balance throughout the organization, DNW will follow the measures of its parent institutes in obtaining a proper work-life balance and measures against gender-based violence including sexual harassment.

By signing this letter, the DNW management commits to the efforts to increase the gender equality within the organization.

With kind regards,
